Do U Remember This?

Dear Diary,

I was just reading this Do you Remember thread on a message board and I started to do it and then just decided to do some in my diary.

Now Im just going on age 33 here Sept 325th so you can have an idea of my age and what times I grew up in.

Technically I spent my childhood in the 70s but I picked up more of the cultural pop stuff in the 80s, cause well, prior to that I was pretty sheltered from some stuff.

Kindergarten – 8th grade I walked to and from school.

As a kid saturday was the big CARTOON DAY! I loved Saturday mornings. I had the Smurfs as my main staple cartoon to watch. But I also watched many others, Kweeky Koala, Get a Long Gang, and what was that one show,,, ummm dangit, the story book show opening… its totally slipping from my head but the shows were based of stories and it was on about 11am on sat, some storybook thing.

I watched Romper Room as a kid and wanted Mrs. Soco to look through the magic mirror and say my name.

I watched the Mickey Mouse Club on tv!

I loved the Brady Brunch and the one where they go to Hawaii and the tarantula is on one of the boys chests in bed freaked me out so bad.

I love Little House on the Prairie and always wished I could go back in time to that era and be friends with Laura and help her stand up to Nellie Olsen.

I had a crush on Ricky Schroeder when he was on Silver Spoons.

I watched Dukes of Hazzard at 8pm every friday night, and I watched Dallas for awhile afterwards at 9pm(Wasnt into Falcoln Crest at 10)

I watched many episodes of Love Boat and had a crush on Gopher.

I also watched many sitcoms, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, 3s company, Facts of Life, Different Strokes, the Jeffersons, Gimmie A Break to name a FEW!

As kids we didnt really sit around and watch tv. We were out the door and playing outside. We played school in my garage and I had set up desks, had old donated school text books, had little milk carton pencil cups on each desk and we really got into playing school. We also had all the kids get their bikes, hot wheels 3 wheeler things(dangit what are those called Im drawing a blank but they went fast!??? with the pedals on them) and we would race around the block.

We got together and made a club and made a little show and charged money for tickets and we had a playhouse in my backyard, I had “The Woodsie Owl Club” remember him? And then I had “The Dynamite Club”

I remember being in Campfire girls, and we sold Campfire Candy at the local banks and we were scolded if we didnt have our complete uniform on and scarf notted correctly and we had to practice how we addressed people and to always say thank you and be polite ( as opposed to how rude kids selling are now)

I walked to stores all the time and the movies and my mom never cared. I even walked thru storm drains and chain linked areas we had cracks in for shut cuts.

We played in the local desert and built forts out of plywood.

There was no MTV, I saw music videos on what was Channel 9 with Richard Blade and there was a show I believe on NBC sat nite videos that was on around midnight.

I listened to Dr. Demento on KMET radio and loved it!

I remember tape recording songs holding a tape player against a radio speaker.

I remember when we got our first vcr! Wow

I remember in grade school we had the COMPUTER BUS arrive and we made hokey little pictures on a computer( didnt have our first personal home computer till 1994- 0r 95.)

I remember going to the Arcade and being able to figure out how to play the games and they all were 25 cents a game.

I remember going to the skating rink as a big teen outing and christian skate night and lights being dimmed for “Couples Skate”

I remember when the Night Stalker was on the loose and being scared at night in my house as a kid.

I remember having a RECORD PLAYER most of my elementary school years and listening to records and no radio.

My first memory of an election and president talk was during Reagans election!

I remember seeing ET at the movie theatre.

ahhh just some scattered stuff ya know?
