Public School Scoring

Dear Diary,

Morning!

Ahhhh, life feels so strangely good these days.

Yes its the change in the relationship with B and I, its having him here, I like it.

Yesterday I worked less hours since the kids had a “Free Student” Day which I had never heard of that before. Also something is going on, a bunch of teachers swapping classes and grades, which is odd, usually they just put someone else in they hire as a sub or what have you, but instead teachers are leaving classes to different ones?

The classes are full, the amount of teachers, well for the 4 and 5th grade they have one teacher and the classes are 31-33 kids per class.

Mind you these are the amount they have for this track my kids are on.

Well as I got to my moms yesterday to drop the kids off to go to work, the front newspaper story was the poor ratings of our schools. That we are WAY below the standard level the kids are supposed to meet with the testing they do. Our schools did have a 19% increase this last year, which was big growth, but sad to say we are still way below the level. It made me sad to read. ALL Of the schools out here didnt meet it, even the ones that are better.

I was talking to B about it yesterday and about the private school I had youngest in, how Im considering going back over there to see if I can still get scholarship. B said “Vicky, if you can, I can pay for it, meaning with the last one I got I had to pay about $190 a month” And B went on about how important education is, how he went to private school as a child and how he really thinks that gave him a leg up on education. He said “Your other option is to homeschool” I guess its just so wild to hear him talk, to find things important, to be supportive and offer to PAY.

My oldest has one more year at the school then he goes to Jr High, but my youngest has a few years left, the private school only goes to 5th grade. The one Im talking about, I checked out the other larger big name ones in the past and they were super expensive and you could volunteer your time to get money taken off tuition but there was a waiting list for that!

High school is another 4 yrs away for my oldest, and Im really thinking private school for him then, but we shall see. Im just really concerned about this out here, they say things now in the classroom, and this is the teachers speaking.

My sons 5th grade teacher says the books they have are boring and dont hold the kids interest, so our kids read whatever they want for 20 min a day. She doesnt care what it is, but now Im starting to realize those books are made for their age level, to learn and recognize words, etc, so Im thinking of looking around the Net or what have you for a 5th grade reading book and having him read from it anyways at home.

The big problem it seems and what teachers are saying at the school is the kids are all at different levels, some are advanced, some are way below, and there are the average ones, so they basically cannot use the same curriculum, But it doesnt seem that the kids are closely monitored, the goal used to be that you want all the kids at the same level, the ones falling behind had to work harder, get extra help, etc. I think that isnt a bad thing to be honest.

My sons teacher last year saw that my oldest did a box book report and she loved it and said “Oh I stopped assingning those because hardly any of the children did them as their parents didnt see to it”

So theres a big problem with kids not getting help at home or supervision or any of that. Parents dont care about education, or the other problem out here is there are a lot of children with parents who do not speak english and cannot help them. Thats the big problem in the school by my house, I guess children are coming there that didnt know english at all.

AHHHHHHHH!

So Im going to call over to the former private school I used to inquire since my son was there 3 yrs ago. Im also going to call my girlfriend as her daughter I believe is still there, but want to check. The school is small, which I like. The class size small. And my youngest loved it there and still knows kids that are there, as he spent preschool and kindergarten there and became close with the kids, it was such a small school that the kids were like good friends and you knew the families and they had parties where the parents came, and so many events that involved us all. Also my ex’s aunt, her daughter goes there. They put her there do to my raving about the place and have kept her going to school there, as did my girlfriend who I recommended the place to also, I just recommended my guy pal C to take his daughter there but havent followed up on it, you get a free payment for referrals on your tuition.

Okay I just took a break from writing this entry and called the school. 🙂 Its $320 a month, but shes going to have the woman call me back who does the scholarships(Actually this is the same woman who got me the scholarship last time to get my son in there and her son and my son were classmates) So say some prayers all! Im not sure if B would be up for that price, Lord knows I cant handle that, but even if I cant get a scholarship, that will give me time this year to start putting money in savings for him to go next year. 🙂

So B and I went to the fair last night, and saw Smash Mouth and Maroon 5. We had a good time. I really liked Maroon 5, I told B i wanted their album now, he said “Well how about I download it for you?” haha, Im all Great! Hes got all the set up for that stuff.

I saw the Sound guy, the one who comes in my work and went over to talk to him, he said “Vicky, I just saw your ex! I didnt even know it was him until he talked” I laughed and said “Oh cause of the long goatee and the shaved head?” and hes all “Yeah, usually men hit there 40s where they start to change like that” LOLOLOL I dont think he meant that as a compliment. But seriously it does age my ex the way he looks.

By the way, I had a message after 11pm last night from my ex, I tried to call him back today, but it says his phone is temp out of service?

And that was awful late for him to call. So not sure whats up.

You know, B telling me about paying for son to go to private school, that really touched me, there own fricking father if he paid support Id have no issue affording this, thats why I had to pull my son out of the school in the first place was due to my income. I think hed do well going back there, and he loved the place and the kids. Plus my oldest will swap to traditional school schedule next year so both kids will be on the same schedule in a year.

You know, this area is growing, houses are being built like crazy out here, prices have gone up, but its sad to hear the school ratings, all these people moving here, the schools are full, the scoring is low, BLEH.

B and I got in around 10:30pm last night, mom watched the kids, hes been so good, we went out the night before to Best Buy and he bought a wireless router and now his computer is done and hes on the net also. YAY! And he got a router for $69 with a $50 rebate!
