Samuel and Hearing Gods Voice

Dear Diary,
I needed to jot this down. On Wed I shared with the whole group about the train car thing I keep seeing and hearing and keeps coming up before me. One gal in the group told me “Go read Samuel”

The following day Daniel Daves posted online this, so I just wanted to post it, its from Samuel. Im still reading the book of Samuel though..

1 Sam 3:3-10 (NIV) 3 The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was. 4 Then the Lord called Samuel. Samuel answered, “Here I am.” 5 And he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” But Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.” So he went and lay down. 6 Again the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” “My son,” Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.” 7 Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord: The word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him. 8 The Lord called Samuel a third time, and Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” Then Eli realized that the Lord was calling the boy. 9 So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.'” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. 10 The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”

God reveals Himself to Samuel one night when He calls out to little Samuel. But Samuel thinks that it’s Eli the priest and runs to him to see why he called. This is a huge discovery in authority and hearing God’s voice. God’s voice was so clear and so much like Samuel’s natural authority that he thought for sure that Eli had called him. And Eli finally realized what was happening and sent little Samuel back with instructions on how to communicate with the Lord.

As children and teens, we have parental authority over us. Hopefully we have some pastoral leadership over our lives also. As adults we should make sure that we have godly pastoral leadership over our lives, and hopefully our godly parents are still living. We need voices of authority over our lives whom God can speak through. Many people isolate themselves and don’t have voices of authority that they’re submitted to. As a consequence they will never hear from God the way that He wants to speak to them.

God speaks through His men and women whom He has appointed in the earth. When God speaks, His words never fall to the ground. As a matter of fact, when God spoke to Samuel through his lifetime, scriptures say that none of His words ever fell to the ground, therefore Samuel was justified as a prophet before the nation.

I believe that God speaks to us in four main ways:
1. Through our authorities, pastors, parents, instructors, bosses, men and women that He has established in our lives.
2. Through His Word, the Holy Bible which was divinely inspired by His Holy Spirit.
3. Through His revealed, revelational, and still small voice that speaks in accord with His Word.
4. Through dreams and visions that come to us which are in accord with His Word.

Samuel learned that God would begin speaking to him with a voice that sounded EXACTLY like His authority/mentor/priest Eli. Even though Eli had alot of problems in his life, he was still God’s man for the day and God chose to imitate Eli’s voice when speaking to Samuel.

We must learn that God will use the voices of our parents, teachers, pastors, and authorities that are over us. Their wisdom and words from Heaven will align with the Word of God (the Bible) and they will bring instruction, admonition, rebuke, correction, and blessing! We must learn to hear from God, listening and learning from our authorities whom He is speaking through. As a parent of two teens, I am constantly reminding them whenever they get that old chip on their shoulder and resist their parental instruction or wisdom offered. I remind them that the voice of God sounds like their mother and father. We must all remember that the voice of wisdom is calling.

COMPASS GUIDE pulls the voice of God out of your heart in order for you to write your 25 word CORE VISION STATEMENT. However, the voice of wisdom will come to you through natural authorities and will confirm, build, direct, and refine your life’s statement, your goals, vision, etc. Make sure that you are under the voice of authority, and recognize when authority is speaking to you from Heaven. In this way you will know God’s voice, and you will train yourself to hear Him speaking through your “ELI” authorities.
