Are We Ever Ready?

Dear Diary,

Yesterdays message in church was on Luke Chapter 10

And I created my own title “Are we ever Ready?”

Okay so I have read this passage before, you know, you read over passages many times, but then you read it one day or hear a message and you hear SO MUCH MORE! More then you heard before. Like it finally penetrates or speaks to you or is made more clear.

So this story is totally amazing, really, read the passage first then what follows with comments about it…

Luke Chapter 10
1 After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.

2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.

3 Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.

4 Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way.

5 And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house.

6 And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again.

7 And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.

8 And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you:

9 And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.

So he was saying during the sermon… “Imagine if I called 70 people up here, in this church, all of the sudden, you, you, you, come here. Im going to pair you up in groups of 2. And I want you to take out your wallets/purses and leave them behind. Im going to send you out like “Sheep among wolves” and your all going to go in various directions, start walking, you dont know where you are going, just walk, I will guide you, then when you have walked far enough go knock on a strangers door and when they open the door say “Peace be unto this house” and then those that receive you will give you food and water to drink. Then go backout into each city you visit and heal people.”

UMMM WOW????

I mean seriously, its how that reads, just go! He didnt say “Hey are you ready to go out? Would you like to go out? Do you have a bag packet? Have you completed seminary yet? Do you feel comfortable?”

He just said GO and dont even grab anything.

Pastor talked about how important our wallets and purses are to us, how we have ids and credit cards, cash that help us to get food at a store, restaurant, to book a hotel if we couldnt get a place to stay, but he said to even leave that behind and just go and all will be provided.

I mean how comfortable would we be to do that????

In life we always are asking questions like this “Are you ready to get married, date again, buy a house, buy a car, have kids, ready to retire…. etc”

But thats not how it was, and really are we truly ever “Ready” for many things in life, or do they just happen or do we just have to step out and go forward?

Have faith and trust?

And yeah we may fall, we may not be received well. What does the chapter say next?

10 But into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say,

11 Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.

Basically wipe the dust off your shoes and keep going!

This goes the opposite of how most of us conduct life, and we even view this as impulsive sounding, irresponsible, unprepared…. but its the exact opposite.. Its walking out in Faith and Obedience

More to chew on
